Gautam Guha, Agami Kalarab: The importance of psychological well-being in children and adolescent, for their healthy emotional, social, physical, cognitive and educational development, is well- recognized. There is now increasing evidence on the effectiveness of interventions to improve children’s and adolescent’s resilience, promote mental health and treat mental health problems and disorders. However, a child’s mental and emotional needs may not be as obvious. Good mental health allows child’s and adolescent to think clearly, develop socially and learn new skills. Additionally, good friends and encouraging words from adults are all important for helping children develop self confidence, high self-esteem, and a healthy emotional outlook on life.
Debut-an initiative to Wellbeing in association with Rotaract Club Calcutta Presidency had organized a walk ‘BUDDING MINDS: Footsteps Towards Better Mental Health for Children’, on 08.02.2020 on the principal ocassion of Children’s Mental Health Week (3rd Feb-9th Feb). It aimed at diffusing the urgency about the children’s mental health, their needs and inner world among all parents and the responsible citizens of our city.
The Rally took place at 11:30 AM. to 1:30 PM. from Golpark to Jadavpur Police Station.
The event progressed with dance performances and singing and merriment all long the way. They were celebrated the colors of the young minds and the more than 100 spirited adolescents and youths carried placards and posters that spoke their words. The fellow associates in this event was Child In Need Institute (CINI), Hamari Muskan Foundation, NYK South Kolkata, Tollygunge Vivekananda Seva Sansthan, Ebong Alap, Tulipdale for being a part of the event. Their presence and assistance made this event substantival and endearing. Guests like noted Director Mr. Sudipto Roy inaugurated the event and he wishes to grant success this program. Eminent Actor Badshah Moitra told “We need a multi-disciplinary team or service working in a community mental health clinic or child psychiatry service, providing a specialised service for children and adolescents with more severe. We should give them love and affection which would be needed to grow them.” Reknowned writer and Actor Kankabati Dutta expressed that, “Our programmes span project development and implementation, evaluation, network building, training and capacity development, to serve marginalised communities and contribute to government policy and programmes.” One of the organizer Ms. Sweta Majumder has told ‘We seek to achieve development and social justice by fostering alliances among key governance actors to increase access to quality basic services, fulfill fundamental rights and involve voiceless communities in decision-making processes in our society.‘
