Leepa Chakraborty, Agami Kalarab: On behalf of our countrymen, many congratulations to Lata ji on the occasion of her 90th birthday. ‘The Queen of Melody’ Lata Mangeshkar ji who is one of the best known and most respected playback singer in India. She was born on 28th sept 1929. Her father Dinanath Mangeshkar was a Marathi theatre actor, a renowned Natya-sangeet musician and a Hindustani classical vocalist. Lata Mangeshkar is not only a playback singer but also a music director and producer.
She has sung in over 36 Indian languages. According to the sources Lata ji has recorded approximately 25000 songs in her outstanding musical career.
Lata ji has received numerous awards and honors for her illustrious career as a playback singer. Some of the awards she won are Padma Bhushan in 1969, Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1989, Padma Vibhushan in 1999, Maharashtra Bhushan Award in 1997, NTR National Award in 1999, ANR National Award in 2009, she was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s Highest Civilian Award in 2001. She won three National Film Awards and 12 Bengal Film Journalists’ Association Awards. She has also won The Filmfare Awards for best female playback Singer four times. In 1993 She was awarded the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award.
She has been honored with many more names like ‘Queen of Melody’, ‘Voice of the Nation’, ‘Voice of Millennium’, ‘Nightingale of India’.
In 1974 The Guinness Book of Records listed Lata Mangeshkar as the most recorded artist in the history, stating that she had reportedly recorded not less than 25000 solo, duet and chorus backed songs in 20 Indian language between 1948 and 1974.
Veteran Indian singer Lata Mangeshkar will reportedly be conferred the ‘Daughter of the Nation’ title on the occasion of her 90th birthday on September 28.
